The Animal Care Specialist (ACS) is responsible for all shelter cleaning and disinfection to keep our animals healthy and provide a positive experience for visitors and personnel.
The ACS is also responsible for feeding, medicating, and exercising animals.
Additional tasks include daily animal enrichment and helping oversee our kennel volunteers.
Willingness to learn simple veterinary assisting procedures is required.
Prior work experience in animal handling and care is helpful.
Due to our small staff and the needs of our animals, the ACS must be very reliable.
Desired personal traits include a strong work ethic, ability to stay busy without direct supervision, attention to detail, ability to follow written and verbal directions carefully, curiosity and interest in progressive shelter processes, positive attitude, and empathy toward animals and people alike.
This position provides potential for personal growth, acquisition of veterinary assisting skills, and if desired, increased hours and room for advancement within the organization.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds, capability in handling large, active dogs and frightened cats, capacity to execute necessary cleaning tasks, readiness to assist with simple veterinary procedures, and the ability to stand/move for lengthy periods.
General Work Hours:
There is one part-time position available, 28 hours per week.
Must be available to work this summer.
Additional hours may be available if desired.
Regular hours are as follows:

Alternating holidays are required (pay is time and a half for holidays).

Benefits begin after 60 days and include discounts on vet care for personal pets, and one free dog adoption or two free cat adoptions per year.
Sick days available after probationary period.
Time and a half is always paid for holiday work, and you'll be part of a strong team in a positive work environment! Organizational Structure:
As an Animal Care Specialist, the ACS reports directly to the Executive Director, Operations Manager, and Senior Animal Care Specialist.
The ACS will work in tandem with the Foster Team, Adoptions Team, Client Services, and volunteers, in order to best serve our people and animals.
